Relief Worker - Women's Halfway House (New Westminster)

Job Summary:
Oversees the intake and care of clients in the residence. Participates as part of the team responsible for the efficient functioning of residence operations and supporting residents in achieving their goals. Assists clients to identify, understand, and overcome personal problems and achieve personal objectives related to reintegration, parole codtions, parenting and regaining independence.

Available positions are relief/on-call including overnights, evenings and weekends. Relief staff must be available for shift work including evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Reports to: Program Supervisor

Education & Training:
A degree in a related field or the equivalent combination education and experience. Excellent for mid-career minded women who want to make a difference. Enhanced security clearance required.
Previous experience in a similar environment ,previous direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of a specific community based program and related provincial and community support is viewed as an asset.
Knowledge of women's mental health issues & federal and provincial legislation, alcohol and drug issues, corrections, psychology, and issues related to poverty and reintegration is preferred.


Skills & Abilities:
i) good written and verbal communication skills
ii) demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
iii) knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the field
iv) good time and general management skills
v) effective interpersonal communication skills
Overnight and weekend shift work is applicable to this position.

Additional Information: This position is required to work in a stressful environment often dealing with clients in crisis situations. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure while managing multiple concurrent programs; including managing emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position. Direct program activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the duties of the position. This position requires union membership.

Cook - Summer Camp (Aldergrove)



Seeking a cook to work in our Summer Camp in July in Aldergrove. Fulltime (35-40 hours).

The job duties will include preparing food for the camp in accordance with an established menu plan, with attention to individual dietary needs. The Cook will be responsible for ordering, the camp's kitchen, and appropriate storage of food.

Qualifications: FOODSAFE or equivalent certification. Experience in a kitchen and with a camp setting. Awareness of appropriate food guidelines.

A moderate level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the duties of the position may be required.

Relief at Women's Transitional Housing (Abbotsford)

Firth Residence in Abbotsford provides semi-independent housing program and support services for women who are single or have children. Clients receive case management and help developing long-term housing plans and accessing community resources.

Education and/or training required:
Degree in a related field or the equivalent combination education and experience.
Previous experience in a similar environment.
Knowledge of women's mental health issues, alcohol and drug issues, psychology, and issues related to poverty and incarceration strongly preferred.

First Aid including CPR is required
Food Safe certification needed within two months of beginning work.

Good time management skills

Addictions - Women's Program Relief (Surrey)

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver is seeking relief (on-call) staff for Addiction - Women's Program in Surrey.

The relief staff are responsible for overseeing clients at intake and during their time in the residence, and helping them in reach their goals. Responsible also for helping the residents to be aware of and move through personal issues, and for helping residents regain their independence.

Qualifications
A degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience totalling 6 years.
Knowledge of substance abuse and addictions
Criminal record check.
First Aid and Food Safe certification.
Experience in social services and in a similar residential or direct program setting

Additional assets are understanding and knowledge of:
women's mental health issues
legislation which pertains to alcohol and drug issues
issues related to poverty
community support and resources

Skills:
Good communication, both written and verbal
Integration as part of a staff team
Interpersonal communication and ability to teach skills
Understanding of the social services field
Time management

Position description
